Camp Daze | A hopeful apocalypse survival story.

Created by Katy L. Wood

An isolated summer camp struggles to figure out what's happening outside their pocket of the mountains when a nuclear war kicks off.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Printed edges unlocked! Plus, a closer look at the foiling design.

We did it! Printed edges have been unlocked. The next stretch goal is $7,000, for illustrated endpapers. I know we can get there!

And now, here's a closer look at the foiling design, and why I designed it the way I did.

I wanted to show off the full foiling design a little more, because I love it oh so much!

The border design is inspired by friendship bracelet patterns since every good summer camp has a roaring trade in friendship bracelets. On the front the center element is a sign post with the title. On the back the center element is a play on a quote from the book. Then, of course, there's the natural elements with the pine boughs and aspen leaf. And the nuclear bomb on the back.

I also put the little dome over the small forest to sort of represent the isolation of the camp, and how that protects them.

Then, on the spine, we've got the number of the book in the series, because all series should be numbered.

So yeah! That's the foiling design on my new book! It looks fantastic.

Printed Edges Reveal

We are less than $400 from our next stretch goal: printed edges! So it's time to reveal the design.

They look absolutely lovely, and I can't wait for them to be unlocked.

Also. It took five minutes to take this picture of the book in the sunlight because SOMEONE thought I actually needed a picture of the book in her shadow.

Meet the Characters: Marauder

Marauder! One of the only counselors to not have a nature themed nickname, but only because she already used "Marauder" as her MMA fighting name. She won a few titles as a teen, but is now focused more on getting her master's degree in botany.

She may be tiny, but she will kick your ass.

She and Conifer work together teaching the survival unit at Aspen Heart, combining Conifer's survival skills and Marauder's knowledge of plants to teach kids how to survive in the woods.

She's also a witch, in the tarot cards and crystals sense, not the fantasy sense.

Here's a little snippet featuring her from the book, where she decides to go on a late night swim in an old volcanic lake:

“No good witch would say no to taking a swim in something so ancient under the starlight,” Marauder replied, picking her way down to the shore.

“Uh, you’ll freeze!” Conifer said, scrambling after her. “Cold water shock is a thing and you are well aware of that, I know you are!”

“That’s what the campfire is for!” Marauder laughed, walking out along a large, secure log and balancing on the end, holding the roots to stay in position. Firelight and starlight carved her muscles into sharp relief, bringing attention to what was usually somewhat hidden. She took a deep breath and a little leap, one hand still on the root, sliding down with her as she disappeared into the water.
